World Series of Poker finalist's home raided
by Sarah Polson
The San Antonio Police Department Vice Squad executed
a search warrant of Richard Lee's home early today and seized property
and evidence they believe is connected to an illegal gambling operation.
Richard Lee hasn't been named as a suspect and wasn't
arrested during the raid, but officers took money, several luxury
cars, and computer equipment from his home.
According to the police, the home has been under
investigation for months for illegal gambling. During the search,
betting slips with names of players and gambling debts were found,
and they also found a "person of interest" looking at an
illegal gambling Web site on a computer.
Earlier this month, Lee finished sixth at the World
Series of Poker in Las Vegas to win nearly $3 million and became a
hero for the San Antonio community. He told media that it seems he'd
gone from hero to zero in a matter of hours, but he was unaware that
he'd done anything illegal.
Police inventoried the property in the home and will
turn over evidence to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office,
which will present the case to a grand jury for consideration of indictments.
