TORONTO -- Three men, including one from London, were
charged yesterday with shooting at police following a violent poker
game robbery.
Two of the men were arrested in Toronto and the the
third was picked up in London.
Police say three men stormed the Thornhill Social Club
on Toronto's Finch Avenue West around 4 a.m. Wednesday and robbed
20 men playing poker.
Shots were fired into the ceiling and the card players
were roughed up.
Police driving to the original call spotted a van leaving
and pulled it over, but it then sped away onto Dufferin Street and
then Highway 401.
As the officers gave chase, a passenger in the van leaned
out and fired several shots.
Omar Jermaine Betty, 25, of Toronto, Ryan Shields, 26,
of Toronto, and Ezra Lottery, 25, of London, have been charged with
robbery, attempted murder, forcible confinement and discharging a
firearm.
They're to appear in court in Toronto today.
